Given the absence of a strategic sustainable planning from the Government in Mozambique, poverty rate is growing and is fostering a static unemployment due to rapid urbanisation and the increasing migration flows from rural areas to the cities. The pressure deriving from this phenomenon is more evident in the cities of Maputo and Pemba, where youth unemployment reaches peaks of 41,4% because of low rates of school attendance in primary and secondary education, and of the contradiction between requested skills in the job market and the real skills offered by workers. PARTICIPADE proposes a path aimed to improve area management systems and governance services, increasing the Municipality’s skills in developing participatory processes for planning and urban renewal services. The project also promotes extracurricular activities in Maputo and Pemba primary schools and the introduction of innovative paths linked to the development of local curricula, facilitating children’s access to renovated services for minors. Moreover, the project promotes professional trainings and self-entrepreneurship for women and youth, aiming to foster literacy and the reduction of unemployment in post-school age.
