Description
The action intends to fill the gap often found between nutrition programs and food security. FARN, nutritional rehabilitation centres, that care for malnourished children, are the key to assist and work with vulnerable women, allowing for the participated development of appropriate activities, adapted to their resources and capacities. These women will be put in contact with available community agents in their region: in particular, producer organizations that are able to provide diversified services through the development of help centres, thus actively participating in food security programmes
Objectives

Promote the reinstatement of food security and prevent malnutrition for the most vulnerable communities in order to contribute to the fight against poverty and hunger. Increase the availability, accessibility, use and stability of nutrient food products through the promotion of entrepreneurship initiatives (in partnership with existing farmer organizations) and through the creation of Learning and Nutritional Rehabilitation Centres, FARN, by using a Positive Deviant Approach.

Activities

The activities implemented by GVC in the programme are :

  • Organization and equipment of FARN in 3 provinces.
  • Monitoring of beneficiaries referred to FARN.
  • Carrying out half-year evaluations of FARN with various community actors involved in the program.
  • Monitoring of community health agents in activities of dépistage and referral of malnourished children,
  • Restitution of results of the action at municipal and provincial level.
  • Community awareness-raising campaign.
