Description
The program’s goal is to improve the living conditions of Uru Chipaya indigenous population through activities aimed at retrieving the ancestral knowledge and good practices which allowed the indigenous population to live and adapt for centuries in a territory with extreme living conditions. The situation of social and geographical isolation can be improved by introducing new technologies to enhance productivity and diversify the income sources , thus reducing vulnerability to adverse weather conditions and creating new occupation opportunities for young Chipayas.
Objectives

The program aims at improving the living conditions of Uru Chipaya indigenous population by enhancing and diversify its means of subsistence; in particular, the goal is to enhance the resilience of the Chipaya municipality to face weather, economic and social change.

  • Municipal contingency plan for floods and droughts
  • Enhancing the management plan for Lauca river through the recovery of ancestral knowledge
  • Introduction of cultivations with a high commercial value
  • Valuing migrants’ experiences
  • Exchange of experiences with the indigenous populations on adapting to climate changes
  • Creation of community practices
  • Training on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)
  • Creation of a living museum
  • Tourist promotion
  • Competitive grants for small local businesses
